All 3D objects shows up black in 4.6.1

Hello everyone, I’m currently testing out 4.6.1 and how to upgrade my current project to it.

Loading up an old 4.4 test project gave me this result:

I can select the objects just fine, but the gizmos don’t show up in the viewport.

All the materials are just albedos. I tried updating the files via the tools → upgrade project files which didn’t work (looks the same before and after). I also tried to switch to compatibility mode instead of forward+, but in compatibility mode none of the lights work and render everything as flat.

The UI elements seem to work fine, whatever is happening is only affecting the 3D objects - opening a whole new project from scratch and gave me the same problem:

I tried just looking around in different settings, but nothing stood out to me as out of the norm. the only thing I could think is causing problems is that I’m working on a little bit of an old Macbook and it maybe just isn’t up to standard anymore.

I’m posting here in case there is a solution that I just haven’t been able to find :’I

Have you tried updating your graphics drivers yet?

Check if this also happens using the Mobile and Compatibility renderers

Are you viewing the environment?

my computer is as updated as it can be, does godot 4.6 have separate graphic render drivers i need to download?

the other renderers seem to disable all scene lights and renders everything in flat colors instead, so not super useful either

yes, but it’s just the standard preview environment that’s not added to scene tree

This looks like a bug that happened with AMD drivers a little while ago. Do you have an AMD video card? If so, try to look for a newer version of display drivers if you haven’t already.

If you have NVIDIA, I’d do the same just to be sure.

Ah, okay. As mentioned above I’m working on a rather old macbook (2013 pro) and I’ve looked around for a graphic driver update based on previous answer to this post, but from what I can tell the hardware isn’t equipped for the latest driver updates (the option simply doesn’t seem available at all).
it sucks slightly if that’s the only solution people have found, but it’s good to know for when i get around to upgrading my setup :^)

Ahh, I’m sorry I missed that part. In that case I do genuinely believe a 2013 macbook might be a little bit too outdated. You can probably use Godot 3 quite easily though!

The only option you have is to launch Godot with the compabitility renderer.
