So how do people here go about finding artists, composers, etc to create resources for their projects? I realise that some of you work for companies that can provide people for this but others are just doing it as a hobby, etc. I have absolutely zero talent or budget for creating music or graphics and don’t know anyone who would do it for me. Although I disagree with the environmental impact of AI I personally have no problem with using it to make up for my weaknesses as far as art and music goes.
I’m sorry but how do you disagree with factual evidence?
To answer your question though, there are many services where you can hire artists, such as fiverr, you can get assets from OpenGameArt and even Itch.io has plenty of assets others created for use, and now Godot is getting a facelift in terms of it’s own asset store.
What?
A normal LLM server consumes a lot of energy. You could power 1000s of houses with that electricity. The problem isn’t that we’re producing extra energy, the problem is it’s not worth it. It’s just very very dumb to cook the planet for a sloppy game.
I also recommend looking on itch.io and https://opengameart.org/ to start. There’s a lot of free and cheap art on there. Plus, if you like someone’s style they are often willing to do custom work for you. another way to find artists is to do Game Jams. Godot Wild Jam #94 starts in 9 days and is a great place to find artists. Just post on the board there. That jam happens every month.
There are a lot of options cheaper than tokenmaxxing. ![]()
To be clear - are you saying you are okay with harming others as long as it benefits you?
That doesn’t make me inclined to help you in any way. Especially when there are so many other paths available.
Another great source of royalty free free art is Kenney (I’ve made an entire game just using assets from them!)
But isn’t that exactly why we should help? To encourage alternatives?
A fair point, but I have the paradox of tolerance firmly in my mind these days.
We all have to decide where to put our emotional energy. I’ve drawn back from the forum lately because the level of entitlement in posts has shot up recently.
Look, kiddo, I myself am a graphics designer, or an artist per say. If you dont think that AI datacenters ruin peaceful and quiet country-sides then you need a serious eye-opener,
traditionally speaking, I have never been too worried about climate change, etc. because, humans are humans, nothing i can do; nevertheless, these AI datacenters not only use up a massive amount of energy and water, but they also feed money to the bulging pockets of the people running the AI corporations whilst destroying areas of rural land around the globe.
You truly want to tell me that I havent met people who were literally forced to move because of AI datacenters?
This is genuinely baffling; and on a note not related to this, AI music and “art” suck. Period.
They are absolutely the worst.
As for AI assets, I dont even consider them to be art, true art is an eternal expression of the mind; not some slop-generated AI content that isnt even sorted correctly.
And where can you find artists nowadays? They either lost they’re jobs to this AI, or they make stuff for themselves or struggle to have any clients.
My oppinion is that you would be better off scrabbling mindlessly on a DAW than using suno AI, and you would be better off with scribble art made in Microsoft Paint than you would be using AI assets.
If you truly want to know where to find artists, it is best to not actively say you dont have a problem with the things that they dread most.
At one point in your life you also had no talent for speaking, walking, and eating solid food. But you learned. Artistic ability is not a divine gift that is measured and apportioned at birth, but a skill that - like speaking, walking, and eating solid food - can become second nature with practice.
A few months ago I downloaded Blender and did not stop working on a single model until it was fully modeled, rigged, textured and animated to my liking. It took a long time, and my first effort is unlikely to win me any prizes, but the end result is serviceable and my skills have grown where I can confidently make a low-poly character in about a week.
You’re not as helpless as you think you are.
You’ve been around for a half a year, and that is how you chose to frame this question ?
You’re trolling, right ? The title gives it away, seeing as you already knew how this community’s majority view LLMs based systems replacing real human jobs (and creating enshittified data labeling jobs to exploit educated people, mostly in developing economies), and then double down on the trolling with the text I quoted.
Are you being congruous with your username ? Then username checks out ![]()
Cheers !
maybe i wouldn’t join AI great war in the comments and try to answer question…
i can say - i don’t like art, i’m 100% programmer, never liked it, my best skills are building minecraft cities (if it counts as game dev maybe :\) but that’s it!
yet!!! i’m starting to realize art is like math, it follows rules, and if something follow rules, even ones you set, it’s predictable. Maybe you won’t be next mozzart or picasso, but you can get to an average level of skill by just messing around, and if you’ll like it, then you can become master if you’ll put work into it
Sorry but you’re mostly taking me the wrong way. When I say that I disagree with the environmental impact, I’m saying it’s a bad thing and I don’t approve of the way it’s currently built. Not that I’m arguing with the facts regarding it.
Oh and FYI I’m not trolling. My particular neurodivergence makes it almost impossible for me to develop these types of skills. While I don’t like what the people behind AI have done to the environment, their methods are slowly starting to improve and if I’m doing a solo project it’s a necessary tool for me.
I think you both overestimate the value and usefulness of “AI”, and minimizing the necessity of you doing these skills, and ultimately: why make a game if you need it to be able to make it, instead of learning the skills and/or seeking help from others? Especially considering the costs, why ignore the impact on the environment and the industry for that?
Also thanks for the links provided
Sorry for not picking up on diversity over trolling, my bad, I should know better.
Actually I don’t overestimate it. Many people look at the environmental impact and the corruption behind AI and nothing else. AI is a tech that is still developing and improving. Many of these posts have criticized me for not developing my skills and people fail to see that is the process AI is going through. I’m happy to use free assets from people but there’s also going to times where I need something specific that would take too long to persuade some random designer halfway across the planet to design for me.
I’d strongly suggest not getting dependent on instant gratification, and reading up on some of the more realistic projections of the development of these tools
