Best way to create animations intended for blendtrees

Hello!

I am working on a third person game and am wanting to blend some animations like a left strafe with an upper body action like waving for example.

As my armature root is the hips when strafing the character rotates their lips to the left When I blend in a waving animation using only the arms the wave is not straight in front it’s rotated like the hips. If I blend in the hips and arms the legs walk forward rather than left.

Is there something I’m missing here? Otherwise does anyone have any pointers for creating new animations with this in mind?

I figure if I remade the strafe with non rotated hips it would perform as expected, hopefully someone has some input or experience on this.
