Boundary Box - Whats a good way to implement a HUD element which is essentially an invisible box that I will code to fill with sprites scaled to fit inside?

Question

I'm just kind of curious what kind of node would be standard practice in this case to make a bounding box to populate with UI elements. An invisible 2D container. Maybe just a regular Node2D and I code the boundaries myself? I thought about using a collision shape for it but that seems a little silly, tbh.

EDIT:Obviously the entire 'UI Node' genre starting with Control Node and it's derivative nodes such as Container Nodes are the perfect solution here, idk why I wasn't thinking clearly about this. This whole time I've been using Node2D and scripts for everything when these nodes are already set up for almost everything you would need for HUD and GUI elements.

What if I put a Canvas Layer inside of the HUD Canvas Layer? Is that allowed, can we just keep adding layers? Ah wait, but they can’t be resized, can they?

Sounds like a Control node, it is a box that you can put children UI into, you can also enable “Clip Contents” to only show what is inside the Control’s bounds.

If that’s not what you are looking for, could you be more specific with what you are trying to do? Maybe some examples? What makes a boundary box different from any other box in your mind?

I’ll try it out tomorrow and let you know

Yeah it’s funny how obvious a solution this is in hindsight, goes to show how reading the documentation is nothing in the face of real experience.
