hello! i and 3 others are working on a character creator creator plugin called Figura, specifically designed for use with 3D models. I wanted to post here to see how interested people are in something like this! our current setup for the plugin’s use requires a rigged and skinned 3D model with all of the optional meshes on the same blend file within a certain naming convention. (There will be documentation posted with the first release). You can add bone deforms, icons for each option, apply custom themes/shaders, use texture atlases for 2D facial features, blendshapes/shape keys for body shape sliders, and more! the plugin should accept any and all meshes as long as they follow the naming conventions! If you are interested in this kind of thing please interact with it in some way! Thank you!!!
We’ve taken a look at MakeHuman prior, our goal with this plugin is to offer as much of a generic framework as possible so people can really get specific with their character creators. I’ll take a look at the generator prototype thank u!
There was previously Humanizer (which, by the way, was also based on this tutorial), and it didn’t gain much popularity, even though it was quite advanced and had very interesting features. I suppose the issue is that different developers have vastly different views on character creation and customization. Even a single developer can have different requirements for different projects.
that variation in goals for devs is kinda what we are trying to focus on. once we have the plugin up on the asset store, we are looking for any kind of feedback to improve and add on it in any way!
Requirements can be mutually exclusive. I abandoned that goal, even though I had even planned to include a choice between low- and high-poly meshes. I intend to keep the planned ability to import models (in glTF), but as a bonus option, not the main goal.
Just a heads-up, there’s a popular mod/framework for custom avatar models for Minecraft that has the exact same name as your project. The overlap might be a problem when googling.
oops thats not great, thanks for the info lol
