Cinematic for game (opinions)

I have been wondering about making a cinematic trailer (no actually gameplay) to generate a bit of hype and want to know what people’s opinions on cinematic trailers are.

Just copy Hideo kojima

I would not recommend putting out a trailer (gameplay or purely cinematic) before you don’t have at least a prototyped game and a good idea about mechanics and scope.
If you do this as a marketing strategy, you better make sure you’ll be able to deliver on any promises made in your trailer or it might backfire.

That being said, making a trailer internally for yourself to help figure out your game’s core pillars is a great little exercise.

Personally, I only watch cinematic trailers for the included gameplay scenes. All the other stuff does not excite me at all. I hate that little asterix disclaimer “Not actual gameplay footage” that you sometimes see.
