Clicking on an animated item

Question

Picture an old Monkey Island game. You’re in a store and there’s a candle on a shelf. The candle flame is flickering. You click on the candle. Stuff happens (disappears, goes into inventory, etc.).

Right now the candle is a TextureButton and responds to the on pressed event. Also right now, there’s no flickering flame because TextureButtons don’t have animation. i’m thinking of switching it to AnimatedSprite2D but then i lose the on pressed event.

Any opinions on the best way to handle this?

You can keep the button and add some light for the flicker effect. Compose your scene of different nodes doing different things. That is how it is supposed to be.
