I have never made a platformer game, Soo for the next 20 days, I’ll try to make one and publish it! The playtime will be around 40–60 mins!
SOOO, it’s kind of a big project. First, I have to make an advanced juicy character. BUT most importantly, what’s a good juicy character controller?
To find out, I played many games on itch and here’s something I found:
What an advanced character controller should have:
Coyote time,
Jump Buffering,
Variable Jump Height
Jump Cut,
Dash,
Wall Slide / Wall Grab / Wall Jump,
Particle effects (They are the JUICE)
A Hook Game Mechanic
Also, for the first time I’ll try to make a story-rich game!
I’m posting here because I have to keep in mind that I’m making a game (I am VERY lazy).
Those are really good mechanics, I used similar in my ninja prototype.
If you ever need help implementing anything let us know.
Good luck and sounds exciting.
Day 1:Got a simple character controller working! I didn’t added the dash and a hook mechanic yet(by hook I am trying to mean a cool unique game mechanic, not a hook one lol)
Hey! Glad to see you’re making something again. If you haven’t nailed down your hook just yet, I have a suggestion. Make it a roguelike! Randomly picked levels, randomly picked items with different movement abilities could be super fun, and can work with any idea you end up having. It can also cut down on the monotony of designing many platformer levels.
I personally thinks pendulums , moving obstacles , shooting arrows , slime , spillage of oil is more interesting as it make variety of speed and movement and timing which is needed to pass it .
