Forks of engine

Just find out there is a few forks like Redot or Blazium is there some worth to mention or try out forks ?

This one was born purely for “political correctness” and is not worth your time at all.

The other one I never heard of. But in all honesty, unless it’s a hyper specialized fork with very specific features you absolutely need that Godot doesn’t have, it’s not worth using custom forks. You’ll get a lot less support for them, and the maintainer can just one day decide to no longer work on the project at all, at which point it’s up to you to fix issues that might come up.

I thought so.

If some would be specialised for Mac OS / iOS be good  .
I tried today going through SwiftGodotKit from Miguel de Icaza but Xcode is not happy with it and refusing to load it dependencies SwiftGodotKit . The one line which catching my attention is “Build macOS dylibs (Metal-only, no MoltenVK)”
keep checking out this - GitHub - migueldeicaza/SwiftGodotKit: Embed Godot into Swift apps

That name gives me the ick like nothing else.

The “Redot documentation” is just the Godot documentation, but the 'G’s are replaced with 'R’s.

Absolutely positively don’t set a foot in that place.

I’m developing on a mac currently, is there something specific that’s missing?

I have noticed two things :
1.) Direct Render on Metal 4 ( when you compile it still need’s MoltenVK)
2.) iOS devices simulator execution

Oh gotcha, more specifically iOS. Makes sense, I haven’t noticed that yet since my target platforms are win/lin/osx.

Not sure that’s a “fork”, but I see where you’re heading there.

Could not agree more. A project that is doomed IMHO.

I’d never heard of Blazium, so I looked it up. It appears to be abandonware. The last release was May 2025. There are also no contributors on the project, though the team supposedly has 7 people according to their website.

Looking at Redot, the person who drove the initial branch contribution is the same person who was doing Blazium releases. So it looks like they were both reactions to something that happened back in September of 2024 (from the Redot README). I do notice that Redot has native MCP server integration so that you can use LLMs in coding your Redot game.

I heard that it was the opposite, that they rejected political correctness and made Redot because of that. But I heard about it secondhand in a post on here when I first joined.

Either way, I’d recommend staying away from both for long term support. They reject the idea of financial contributions, which means that they are more likely to become abandonware.

This video is very outdated, but also highlights a great issue with both of these forks.

Both of these forks offer so little extra features, that both of them could’ve been a GDExtension addon for base Godot that adds the 1 or 2 functionality they offer. Why create a whole fork just for that?

With fork Bug-got :cockroach:

I have heard of them but don’t see the point of it, unless there making there own updates and improvements. other than I a will give it there icon is a bit mire nicer LOL. but see no point.

I have my own fork but that’s because I know C/C++ and I can add my own Functionality to gdscript It or I need to optimise something like I done use groups or layers to find out what an object is and gane an extra 51% speed. buy using an ID so it speed up my jolt physics.

They have commits as recently as last week on the master branch, let’s not be so hasty to label people’s work as abandonware, neh ?

Still no idea why they forked, what is their plus value ? It’d be the first thing I would shout at the four winds, if I was maintaining a fork of Godot under another name. Plenty of folks have forked Godot to work on private builds for various studios or hobby projects, because they could.
But changing the name just to compete with Godot, is that all there is to it ?
Weird…

Latest release May of 2025

While not abandonware, but couple that with the fact that since January 9th they haven’t made any commits, it doesn’t look good.

The most recent commit I saw for Blazium was 2 months ago, and Insights showed nothing recent. It looked like it’d been months since they’d done anything on it. Apologies.
