Galactic Commander Dev Diary 1 - Godot 4 C++ Grand Strategy Game Dev

Hey everyone I made a dev diary for my upcoming grand strategy game Galactic Commander.

Galactic Commander is a sci-fi grand strategy RPG with a focus on economic mechanics.

Please check it out and give me some feedback, it would mean a lot to me at this point. I also go heavily into the technical details and the actual C++ code and game design processes I’m using so I guarantee you if you watch this you will learn all kinds of new things about Godot or game dev in general.

Looks like a great start. Perhaps ‘Commander’ is not the best word to use here. Sounds more like a ‘Galactic Tycoon’ to me!

I also love the “This isn’t working at the moment but never mind”. Lol. Just like my game!

I am interested to see what you do with the UI and especially the HUD. At the moment this could go in so many directions it is very early days it seems.

Thanks for the kind words, definitely in the early days still you got that right. I’m still not so sure how I want to do that UI, probably with sharp sci-fi looking corners and accents all over. For the name I chose Commander because a lot of the game will (hopefully) be roleplaying as a star ship commander. So the idea is that YOU, the player, will be a Galactic Commander leading your ship. Hopefully in my next dev diary I’ll get more into the lore and backstory, I didn’t want to dig too deep on it yet since we are still fleshing out big parts of the main story : )
