Godot and coding IDE like VSCode

Hi,

I use godot with GDScript and the default internal IDE supplied by Godot.

I’m not very happy with it as the place inside the Script IDE is restricted in size and it does not feel very adapted to 2026 but more like turbo C++ in the end of 80’s.

I use for web dev VSCode and I would like to know how many people use VSCode to code GDScript or even C# in godot ?

Did you improve your workflow and speed using External IDE for Godot or did it make your process more combersome ?

I did some C# coding in Godot using VSCode and I disliked to go outside godot env to code.

I have the feeling the IDE for Godot should be rethink and improve to make it more adequate to 2026 coding standards.

Thx

I use VSCodium with the Godot Tools Extension, I only use GDScript. Godot Tools connects to the open Godot project and can be used as a linter to display errors and warnings inside VSCode.
For small experiments I’ll use the intern editor. It Is really capable and I enjoy the in editor documentation. Yes, there is room for improvement.
I prefer VSCodium mostly for the git interface.
