HIRING! Medium-sized RPG for the masses, PROJECT GUNMA

THIS NO LONGER APPLIES! PLEASE DO NOT GET IN TOUCH, AS WE HAVE SOLVED THIS.

Oi! I’m the main director of PROJECT GUNMA, Abigail M.

We are a team of artists, a writer (me!), actors and musicians who have been slowly planning and building a medium-scale RPG for 4 years. We have recently held two successful casting calls on Casting Call Club.

We initially constructed it in RPG Maker MV, but due to immense difficulties regarding the possibility of multiple features and activities, we have decided to move over onto Godot before development kicks fully into gear sometime after the recording process well underway, hopefully in late 2026-early 2027.

We are looking for programmer(s), ones that have a good understanding of GDScript/Lua and can feasibly help build a limited 3D, sprite based RPG. Ever played Pokemon: Black and White? Sorta something like that, visually.

We are also looking for a programmer who can create mini games and side activities, such as, but not limited to:

  • Skateboarding
  • Drinking Game (Keep your balance in the center and don’t fall off the chair as it gets harder and harder…)
  • Fishing
  • Karaoke

The work is very long term, and paid. I want to make sure it works out for both parties! We will take our time to make sure its all coming together the way we want it to. We are aiming for a 5-6 hour length to the main campaign.

If you wish to read up on the project’s nitty gritty details, please do so on the most recent casting call! It was linked earlier, but here it is again. Neat.

We are against the use of AI and blockchain technology, and will not hire based on those factors

Welcome! It’s a nice fresh wind to have people actually looking to hire teams on this forums (as far as I saw during my short time here).

That’s quite an ambitious project you got there. Your timeline seems to project the size of your endeavor. In your casting calls you require your voice actors to have at least two years of experience. Can you give a bit of your background, too? Previous projects (even non-gaming)?

Hey! My experience is mainly in writing (which I’ve continued to hone over the past 4 years, I feel like i’ve gotten to a reasonably good place), photography, anything that has to do with making movies and stories, though I’ve built up experience in 3D art the past (soon) three years of my life. I originally started this project back in 2021, but put it on ice in 2022 and have been slowly improving my skills since then so I suck a little less, considering this is a HUGE undertaking that will suck years out of my life.

Most of my previous projects were film assignments for my film class while I was still learning, which was back in 2022. A lot of that is private and I took a lot of that off the internet years ago, but I’ve learned a decent chunk since then.

Where does the Lua knowledge come into play when you are going to use Godot?
Is it for porting existing RPG Maker code to gdscript?

I was wondering the same thing, even though Lua is a really easy language (made a small piece of a Tboi mod) to learn anyways so most programmers (especially people here who use GDScript) shouldn’t have issues.

Thanks for the comment! Post has been modified to include GDScript. Apologies, I wrote this at like, 5am. :frowning:

So nothing to share? Putting your name in everything so prominently kinda suggests you got some claim to make there

Also to clarify: you are looking for programmers to work on this full time? Or is it similar to the hour-based approach you got for voice actors?

With a timeline of up to four years (as stated by you in the casting call) and at least 5 hours of campaign: how are you paying for this? And, how are you fiscally managing this? You got a company?

I don’t mean to be rude, it is my interested in how you tackle this project and a little bit of vetting in general.

I still don’t know what parts of the game need Lua. Legacy code?

May be a big shot in the dark but maybe some mod support of sorts? The only 2 games I’ve seen use Lua are games that use it for User Generated Content.

We have found a programmer! Thank you all for your interest. <3
