I’m working on a post processing shader to show outlines. I have successfully coded the shader but it also makes a thick line in the middle of the screen because of the default generated plane. How do I turn that off?

You need to create a new environment. By default, Godot 3.x creates a procedural sky (which is part of the environment). Create a new environment without the procedural sky, and you can easily get a single-color background.
