This is looking really great! I played the heck out of Hollow Knight and with the exception of the player character, I honestly can’t tell if you’re using their background sprites or if this is your own work (which I mean as a compliment). If you’re going for Hollow Knight… nailed it.

Really appreciate the compliment. All sprites are drawn by me in Krita. It’s taking me a while to get the composition of the art right since I’m also learning how to draw on this project, but I’m getting better at it.

One the things I love most about making games is all the disciplines it requires. Having the opportunity to bounce between coding and drawing, learning both at the same time… don’t get me wrong, sometimes it can be overwhelming but it can also be very refreshing and exciting. It looks like you’re making great progress on both the Godot as well as art side!

I’ve never heard of Krita but I’m going to google that today! Keep up the great work and keep us posted on your progress!

That is exactly what I do. When I get stuck in either art or code, I do the other. If I get stuck in both, I spend that time thinking about the world building.

Will definitely keep posting updates as I have more to share.

This looks great! You nailed it!

The only thing I can bring up is that the thorn wall blends too much into the background. I thought it was a background object first before you started hitting it.

This will 100% take players by surprise when they run into it, thinking it’s just background decor.

Good call out. I’ve since changed it a lot from what it looks like. My exploration has taken me towards a different direction that addresses the issue you raised.

This looks amazing! I would love a tutorial on how to get such a good camera movement and transitions

I made a video here about how I setup the camera system.

Wow this looks fantastic! Would play this

Looks amazing!

I would add though that the glow around the player should not follow the player precisely. So when he jumps it should move up a bit but let the player move from the center of the circle. Same as when jumping, the light should drag a little behind, moving more smoothly than the player, and not as abruptly.

But very professional looking game. Great job!

Thank you!

You’re right about the glow. It bothered ne for a while too but I’ve iterated on it and I think it looks better now.
