How u people make devlogs ? Do u record all the things u do ? or what ?
I’d say it depends on what your audience expects / is familiar with, how much you want to say, and how much time you want to spend on it. Some people use it as marketing, and put a lot of effort into keeping people up to date with development, others just put that time into game development, and make text updates with every new build.
One thing is certain - you don’t need a devlog to make a game ![]()
I made a plugin to automatically take screenshots over time. It helps to post what I’m currently working on or to have something retrospective like “how it started vs how it’s going”, while being much smaller than videos and as a plugin it’s zero work to at least have something for marketing/devlogs. Still if you want to make videos you’ll have to make videos, most people will open up OBS to record a short video or get b-roll for a longer video
I know from experience that that’s a REALLY complicated question. To put it lightly.
First, what do you want out of game development, and by extension, your life? Deep question, but that’ll determine how you present yourself and your game.
I prefer interacting with a community and my friends by hanging out with them often. So my prefered platform is Discord (the best place to just talk to people) via the Monkanics discord. It’s a tight-knit and fun place.
But I also have supporting socials that bring more attention, like the Monkanics Godot Forum topic and my YouTube channel. But that’s besides the point.
Another good question is, what do you like doing outside of game development? Recording, editing, writing, streaming, talking, etc. You can do that on the side.
Biggest thing though it to START. Just start, ok.
You’ll figure it out as you go, but asking questions won’t get you very far.
