Question

Hello, I have been making a 3D game for a year, however, it’s going nowhere, the game is too big in two aspects, It has many things, and the textures, models, etc. Are also to big killing performance, so, I decide it to give it a pause and make a smaller game in almost every aspect, I have been creating now a 2D platformer combined with shooting, however, I don’t like much 2D, And because I’m kind of lazy making pixel art or art in general, and I have more interesting in making 3D models, I was thinking, what’s best for a small game, 2D or 3D? I like low poly models, and shooting games, I have some progress on the 2D game, but it’s minimal, and I can still make some of those textures to 3D.

Sorry if the tags aren’t the correct ones, I don’t know what to put in the tags.

It depends what you want to do. If you want to make your 3d game, keep at it. There is no time limit for game dev

maybe u should do 3d

I would say build small prototypes around the things you enjoy making or want to learn more about. For example, see if you can make a prototype of a shooter game using low poly models you make.

It doesn’t have to be a full on game, just something to play about with. Then maybe a game idea will come out of that.

A small game can be 3D or 2D.

Here is a great video about making small games.

So, I decided to make a small 3D game, I want it to be an FPS or a TPS, I Think an FPS with the boss rush style that the video mentions will be good. Although, FPS are not the best for small games (especially like me who is a single developer, although, a friend of me does the textures), I’m more motivated to do an FPS game because that’s what I like, thanks for your help!
