I wish it were 2030 already

The year that everyone finally realizes that Godot outperforms any “web” stack for desktop offline office GUI applications.

Don’t get me started on the other hype-thing, lest I rant again.

Also: I want my Linux back.

Make office jobs fun again.

Thoughts?

…and prayers.

The year is 2030. After a long search, Microsoft has settled on a new GUI framework: Godot. WinUI joins WPF, Windows Forms, MFC and Win32 in the pile of GUI frameworks.

Microsoft decides: new decade, new me. Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Microsoft 365 Copilot, and before that Microsoft Office) is now being remade in Godot, after abandoning the web version to fester. You can now create Excel macros with GDScript. The Godot Foundation now gets funding for first-party Exchange integration. You can now authenticate with your school/work account.

Outlook (new) gets renamed Outlook (LTS), and Outlook (classic) remains still the preferred email client. On the bright side, it is now possible to send 3D models in your email. No meaningful features get added. Search is still broken - but now it’s the default Godot search.

The product formerly known as Microsoft Office still does not work on Linux, due to the custom rendering server that supports only Copilot Graphics Programming Interface (the successor to DirectX 12). It does not work without TPM 3.0, for some reason.

Microsoft also has decided all Xbox Studios’ (whatever’s left of it) games will now use Godot. Skyrim remake delayed to 2042.

Meanwhile, a new open source game framework is gaining popularity… Someone makes a post on its forums “I wish it were 2040 already”…

Nice. Guess we must make the best of the present then. :person_shrugging:

This is gold :joy:

I’m at the point in my life now (age wise) where if I actually wake up in the morning I consider it a bonus.

If thats still the case in 2030 then I will take that win.
