Implementing tank tread marks

I’m making a top down tank game and I’m having trouble implementing tread marks. I want to achieve something like this.
I’m using a particle emitter as a child of my Tank node but it doesn’t rotate with the parent so the tread marks always appear horizontal. I tried setting the angle of the particle process material through code to follow the parent rotation but then even already spawned tread marks rotate with the parent.
Turning on local coords makes the particle emitter rotate with the tank but then it also follows the parent position so no tread marks appear behind the tank.
I would greatly appreciate some help.
