Is auto exposure viable?

Question

I’m making a 3d game and tried using the auto exposure feature of the camera.
The problem is its very inconsistent, often making the screen fully bright.
Also it doesn’t match the lighting i set in editor usually making it too bright.
I tried tweaking the settings but then it looks wrong in other scenes.
Has anyone used the auto exposure and had it work as they intended, and should i just avoid using it?
