Is this necessary for weapons switching system?

I looked up few tutorials of making weapons system and all of it end up adding state machine so my question is, is state machine necessary for weapons switching system even that the game iam trying to make simple like brotato?

No. State machines are not related to weapon systems directly.

But is it necessary if I want a mix of melee and rang weapons?

No. Melee might require more states(or a fancy animation), but you do not have to build a FSM for multiple weapons to work.
