Hello, I want to make half-life 3, but I am not going to call it that, it is going to be called, Half-Life: The Arctic Mission (you can call it half-life 3, just I don’t want a cease or desist letter at my door if that is okay), the game is going to be split into parts like half-life 2 (for easier development), the development group will be named Lambda Development Group, Logo:
and I am still making the logo.
The story of part one (Spoilers for Half-Life 2 Part 1 and 2):
Alyx drags unconscious Gordon to the helicopter and flies to the White Forest base to tell the other people of what happened. Gordon wakes up to Alyx and the vortigons helping him up. The other rebellion people say goodbye to Gordon, Alyx and Magnusson and they go into the helicopter heading to the arctic to destroy the Borealis. During the flight to the arctic, 4 advisors come and take down the helicopter, the helicopter crashes down into City 22 located in Helsinki, Finland. End of Part 1.
While it definitely looks like a project born out of a love for the series, I think there are a few major issues here that I’d like to point out, not to discourage you, but to make sure you avoid some issues in the future.
I’m not an expert in this field, but Half life, it’s assets and story are owned by Valve. Simply saying that you’re “not affiliated” with them won’t hold up in court at all when it comes to that, but the worst that will happen is the game getting pulled from any storefront. The reason a lot of half-life fan content exists is because they’re all using the Source engine, or are simply a modification of Half life 1 or 2. But I don’t imagine Valve would take kindly to a random dev team making a game using their IP without their involvement at all, in an engine they don’t control in terms of licensing.
Obviously I don’t know how big the current team is (if there is a team) and how much experience each member has, but there’s a good reason why it takes a while to make a game this size. Ripping assets and re-using them from Half-Life would obviously be a massive issue in terms of the legitimacy of this project, and if you plan to make all the assets yourself, that will require either a massive team, or a small, but very talented team, and even with that, it’ll likely take many years.
If you do really want to make this happen, I’d highly recommend making it as a mod for Half-Life 2, or even Half-Life Alyx to avoid both the extra development time of creating every asset needed from scratch, and especially to avoid legal trouble.
Of course, that’s just my opinion, and I wish you luck with the project!

Uh, I think the “half-life” part is a bit more relevant than the “3” part here…
