Question
I’ve been working for about 2 years on this hack and slash game and have gone through various styles and animation sets … the system is becoming mature but I decided to try to reintegrate the new animations and character to Cogito and here is the result.
Had a bit of fun making a 5 room dungeon … (can’t figure out how to get youtube to make HD videos, it can be set to 720p)
There is no doubt, this method is effective but the combat system is very broken at the moment, perhaps a 6 hour job to repair,. then I’ve got some NPC’s working with navigation, limboAI behavior HSM states and behavior trees, walking with root motion … theres just an issue integrating them into the codebase,
have to give credit (as on the video) :
This is a really quick place holder dungeon set up made using Cogito, gridmap, and a dragon “demon dragon full texture” endlessvoidmc under CC attribution on sketchfab.com.
“Spartan Helm” by Praveen released under CC attribution on sketchfab.com.
“Torch” by J_son released under CC attribution on sketchfab.com
I think maybe its not good enough but then again im just 1 dev with 1 playtester … myself.
Ive done games before and before Unity, but missed out on the gold rush because I didnt have all the skills.
I dont really know how to complete it, and 10 levels of crap isnt worth publishing.
So i could branch to another type of game and produce different types until something sells then maybe focus on that. Why would I bother unless the game has elements that I would actually play myself.
I do actually like adventure puzzle games.
The map is set up as a 5 room dungeon, with overlaps, and extra rooms, but essentially the player is asked whether they should trust the magic helmet … “Helmet of Psychic control” … do they have the constitution, or sanity level, to handle the arcane energies emitted from the helmet ? If so, and if they can wear the mysterious armour and jump back over the gap, they face the final reward and dungeon boss rolled into one … the dragon. Perhaps there are many dragons in this game, some less gullible that others. And the owner of the headset would likely hunt and seek revenge against the player.
Perhaps in the room with the armor (that looks more expensive than the helmet which causes the player to lose health, sanity and stamina while wearing) there is a bottomless pit, a large circular black hole in the floor … theres a plaque with the inscription “cast items into the well to recieve an item of equal value” then the player can actually make the mistake of permanently discarding the helmet and unknowingly forsaking the ability to become a dragon rider and instead will recieve a legendary item of equal value …
Ive gone off topic … allowable this time. All this is easier if im not concentrating on abstractions (more like distractions).
