MeshPainter - Paint vertex colors and UV-based color onto 3D models

Hi! I’m a solo developer, and I built MeshPainter with Godot to paint colors directly onto 3D models.

This was made in Godot 3.6.2

MeshPainter supports vertex-color painting and UV-based color painting, where the painted color is stored in the model’s albedo map. Its UV Setup can generate UVs for meshes that need them, and GLB export preserves both vertex colors and UV-painted color.

The 1.3.2.0 updates improved UV generation for dense meshes and GLB export. The generated UV layout is still being refined, so feedback on larger models would be especially helpful.

Download the free desktop build from GitHub: GitHub - iammojogo-sudo/MeshPainter: A program for editing mesh textures and paint · GitHub
The paid edition is also available on itch.io.

If you try it, I’d appreciate feedback on the import → paint → export workflow: what was confusing, slow, or didn’t work as expected? Thanks!

Planned for 1.4.0.0

The next update is focused on improving UV setup across platforms and making mesh problems easier to diagnose.

  • Bring automatic UV generation to Linux and macOS, alongside Windows.

  • Add an inspection option when UV generation finds invalid geometry, so problem areas can be highlighted on the mesh.

  • Improve UV failure messages to explain what was detected while preserving the original mesh.

  • Continue testing UV generation and exports with dense and unusual meshes.

These features are still in development. Texture painting is not part of this update.
