Modifying Resources during runtime?

Hey there! I’m new to Godot! I’m trying to make a crpg, and from the nature of that, the player’s stats are subject to change, so I was wondering how to use a resource as a database, whilst modifying the variables in that resource. for example, during a character creation scene, i want to be able to assign skill points to different skills (adding a bonus to whatever skill) and have the value of that skill in the resource go up. I have seen people modify their resource’s variables in the editor, but I want the player to be able to do it. Should I use alternative means?

I found this set of tutorials about how to make a retro text adventure super helpful when I was trying to get acquainted with resources.

Saving and loading is a whole other can of worms though. This one was helpful for that.
