My Game took a new direction after early feedback

Some of you may have seen my previous post showcasing my Hollow Knight-inspired game. What you don’t know is that I’ve been stuck on the game’s direction for a while now, which is why there hasn’t been an update.

I organized a playtest to gather feedback, and a lot of people felt it was too ‘Hollow Knighty’, and people even called it a “Hollow Knight clone.” Although I could have pushed forward and finished the game, I felt that tag would put me at a disadvantage since it’s incredibly difficult to live up to the expectations of a “clone.” I want my game to be remembered for its own merits. I’m perfectly fine with it being called “Hollow Knight-inspired”, I just wasn’t comfortable with the word “clone.”

Anyway, my game has taken a drastic new direction in terms of art and gameplay, and I wanted to share that with you all. This new path has me really excited, and the future has never been clearer.

I made a Devlog video about this new direction here

In summary, “I’m making Returner, a metroidvania game where you can possess any enemy and make use of their abilities for combat and traversal” The main mechanic of my game is now the possession mechanic, and it has brought a new dimension to my game.

Looking forward to sharing more with you.
