Seems a bit over-the-top. What do you think?
IMHO the European Parliament usually comes to sensible and widely discussed and properly researched decisions. Yes, it might make access a tad harder. However it is intended to protect children from things like pornography, gambling addictions, radicalisation, predatory behaviours etc. I am sure your online private server is full of responsible and reasonable people, not all are however. There have been many grooming and abusive sites aimed at children especially in the context of âfree gamesâ.
Again, IMHO, this will have zero impact on most people, but go someway to help prevent some of the online abuses that are happening every day. Also be aware of the âcouldâ in the headline. You can âcouldâ about anything.
âAI could kill the planetâ
âNew food law could cause starvationâ
âNew leak could end Googleâ
âNew conflict could cause world warâ
This looks like a click bait headline and from the looks of that site, I am not surprised. Maybe not AI slop, but certainly in the bucket of human slop.
Stop Killing Games was never about online games. The idea was to remove online DRM checks for games that work perfectly well offline, not to force game publishers to keep their game servers online forever. The former is a reasonable demand, the latter is not. Forever is a long time!
OK, private (user-run) game servers would fit under both the new regulation and the original goal of Stop Killing Games, but that affects only a tiny minority of games. And I donât think the EU is going to go after the guy running a Quake server for his friends for not age-checking his friends, if for no other reason than because theyâre never going to find out about it.
You cant say anything because âprotect the childrenâ.
I mean. age checks definitely seem like. How are they going to implement this?
are gaming companies or even indie games going to have to ask for peopleâs IDs? CUz THAT seems way more risky to me - I donât want my ID and info OR a kidâs ID and info being linked in that way - even if we assume nothing is done with it on the intended side, seeing all these huge data breaches seems like a. Not great. thing in the era where so many companies and/or governments are advocating for collecting this kind of information.
But maybe theyâd have a better way than just asking for IDs to do it? IDK. either way it does worry/ irk me
