PiN - A hand-drawn 2D Platformer

Some props I did today (starting to think how I can pepper variety and lore elements into the level)

Edit: This one’s not as detailed as it’s going to appear a few layers back, shrouded in fog:

Another edit - got a basic version of the statue moving you:

Interesting. While I don’t totally oppose AI, I suggest not using it in the final work. Most platforms (like Steam and Itch) need you to disclose AI use, and consumers end up judging the game by that. Something as big as that may cause backlash.

I wish we had big brains and could make our own AI… I wouldn’t call it an AI. I will call it a procedural generation tool…

Yeah for sure. Although Im in two minds about whether I can fully categorise it as ai.

Throwing in a prompt and calling it a day vs extending something you already made.

Same  I guess to be on the safe side, I’ll just make the full tracks myself. Or get someone else to do it. There’s always that.

If anyone fancies joining the journey (and building on social proof!) I’ve made a discord server for PiNNy boy:

I am very glad for you how steadily and consistently the game expands! Very good job!

At 2:40, when you zoom out to give the player more context during the platforming part: that’s great and you should do that more often. This helps establish a clear separation between Runner vs. Platformer. Especially a few seconds later, when PiN has to move zig-zag to the left and right again this would certainly help.

Also, consider moving the tutorial messages and dialogues closer to PiN or center.

Big applause!

Thank you for that ximossi!

I’ve been tinkering away and trying to improve the flow, before I start hammering out levels for worlds 2 and 3.

Appreciate the very specific feedback - I’m getting a lot of suggestions on camera, ui and dialogue in general - will be working on these first.

Again, thanks for your kind words!

Awesome work as usual! Gotta warn you that some sound effects are a tiny bit too loud and prevent you from being fully immersed in the atmospheric sounds. The coin collect is one such sound - it’s a bit annoying honestly. Consider pitch variation and a less jarring sound, because the rest of the sounds are really amazing and they’re getting overshadowed.

Don’t forget to connect your new socials! Link Discord in YT, and vice versa - free traffic to both!

Thanks ComicallyUnfunny!

Yeah you’re absolutely right - there are definitely some sound effects that are wayy too loud; and I was about to defend the orb collect sound but…. the pitch change isn’t even there. Damn.

I must have accidentally turned the effect off in the bus and not realised.

Good shout on socials too!

Plenty of things to do tomorrow

I thought, wouldn’t it be cool to run up walls… it makes sense as a ninja type character, right? (eyes emoji… pretend I used it. Why cant I use it?)

My wallet never forgave me for joining these forums … … .. okay… is there a place to wish list this?

Love me some eyes emoji :eyes: Try typing ;eyes; but replace the semicolons with colons. Anyway, that dev footage looks so high-quality that you could totally make shorts/devlogs out of it! Bit of voiceover and an engaging script can build a big following on YT Shorts and convert into wishlists/sales.
