Push RigidBody3D to the side

I am not sure what I am missing here. In my conveyor system there is a Y-Fork module that is pushing cubes to the right side based on whatever logic.

At the entrance of the module I have a CenterArea3D that is detecting the cube (RigidBody3D) and setting the applyImpulse flag to TRUE on the RigidBody3D

func _physics_process(delta):
	if applyImpulse:
		self.apply_central_force(Vector3(0, 0.2, 10))
		self.apply_central_force(Vector3(0, 0, 0))

The flag is set to FALSE once the cube passes CenterArea3DDivert to confirm that it has been pushed far enough over.

Looking at the video the result is rather … what am I missing here? Why is not every cube pushed over and besides, what is the best way to make it a smooth move and avoid tilting it over?
