Rename Spriteframes

Godot Version

4.7.2

Question

How can you rename this animation, It wouldn’t let me when saved

Double clicking on the animation name should let you edit it.

Should, maybe, but doesn’t (v4.8.dev5.official [9552dfb68]…). A click brings up a list of all the animations, one cannot ‘double click’. I’ve never found a way of editing an animation name inside of Godot. It would be a useful feature, I think.
It’s possible to edit a ‘tscn’ file and change the ‘Animation’ ‘Resource_Name’, but I’ve never done this myself, so I can’t say what, if any, risks are involved. I usually go back to the source and edit in Blender, where my animations come from.

I don’t know about 4.8 because I tend to avoid dev versions, but 4.6 and 4.7 let you normally rename the animation by clicking its name in the list in SpriteFrames editor.

Yeah, that seems to work in 4.6 and 4.7, but it looks like the behavior is different in the dev version.

Apologies; my animations are 3D, so I don’t see the SpriteFrames editor. Please ignore.

You can rename those as well

I’d like to know how, please. Here’s a screenshot using 4.7; I get a drop-down list of the animations, but cannot ‘double-click’ to edit. Is there something I’ve been missing all these years (genuine question…)..? Chum

There’s an “Animation” button beside the dropdown list. Select the animation you want to rename, then click the Animation button.

Also just for future information, the AnimationPlayer node is not “3D”, it can animate any property, doesn’t matter if it’s 2D or 3D.

That’s excellent; I’ve been doing this the hard way for… Well, even longer than that..! Thank you very much; I’ve learnt a New Thing today. I’m indebted to you, sir or madam. Chum
