Shape keys break the mesh

Not sure what is going on with shape keys. I tried double sided mesh, mesh with normals all set to in / out, smooth / flat shading, auto smooth, relative in blender. I also tried adding materials, changed all the settings on parameters as well as disabled culling of back faces. Still when I try to use shape_keys I get a really crackly mesh. Please see the attached gif.

Any help greatly appreciated.

After another hour of fighting I realized that you can’t use triangulate in the Better Collada exporter. You have to triangulate before you create the Shape Keys or don’t use them at all. That seem to fix the issue.

Don’t mean to answer my own question but I spent nearly 3 hrs exporting in different formats gltf / fbx / dae from both 2.79 and 2.8 blender with same results until I came to the triangulation! Burning a bit dim today :frowning:
