Skeleton2D's polygons disappear when rotated

Question

I’ve built a character roughly following the guide here and GDQuest’s YouTube videos.

I have rigged my skeleton and assigned polygons to bones everything looks good until I try and rotate any of the limbs, after a small rotation the polygons disappear and only reappear when I rotate backward towards their starting range.

Any ideas what is causing this?

I had a slightly different problem (sprite vanished when I assigned the skeleton) … but using Skeleton2D > Overwrite Rest Pose fixed it.
