Starting a new game (LERN simulator)

Godot Version

4.2.1 Stable

Question

I want to make a game, I like Godot and want to work with it.
Yet I am unsure how to start.

I draw inspiration from this Society after Doomsday - Bruce Beach and this TRIAD Individual Networking Preparedness For Disastrous Times - Bruce Beach

I want to simulate the described LERN meetings (status update since last meeting), LERNed decisions (create Credits and allocate budgets, destroy credits where necessary).

The “Health bar” of the game is the overall trust in the currency.

I am unsure how to begin. I can create buttons and write code in one control node. But I am unsure how to even get a basic feedback loop to run, with victory and failure conditions.

Also I wonder if I can turn this into something akin to Paradox engine or Dwarf Fortress, where space pauses game and otherwise it runs.

This is an open end/result, thread, so feel free to tell me how you think about this.

The very first time I downloaded Godot, the first thing I did was the tutorial.

Today it seems so basic and easy, but when I didn’t know anything about game dev or Godot, it seemed difficult, yet the docs are virtually fool proof. It is the best way to start learning everything you need to start making your own game. Or at the least, introduce you to some basic concepts.

It only takes a few hours to complete. I actually did it twice!

Good luck, you will be up and running in no time.

Paul

PS Your game idea sounds great btw. You should do it!
