Thinking of a shooter game set in the southwestern US during the 1880s-90s. Had this idea for a while. I understand it’s not good practice to advertise a game idea before you have a prototype, but I want to know if this is something anyone would even be interested in before I make any time commitments.
Think Counter Strike but in the old west. There’s two teams with asymmetrical loadouts; the sheriffs/lawmen, who have access to higher end guns, and the bandits/outlaws, who don’t have the nicest guns but have more guerilla options like dynamite and hatchets. Each match has rounds and if you’re killed, you don’t respawn until the next round, like in CS. I want the game to have a very low time-to-kill, so that weapons feel really powerful and that reaction time and skill matters.
As far was weapons, I want a vast selection, but they’re balanced in a way that everything is viable and choosing a weapon comes down to personal preference. Unlike CS, I want loadouts to be persistent and determined before matches. The player will have a set amount of money that they can spend on their loadout, and picking and choosing weapons raises or lowers that amount. If you choose a really nice rifle, you can’t have a very nice pistol, and vice versa.
I want player interaction to feel dynamic. Proximity voice chat only, that the other team can hear. You can drop your weapons for other players to pick up. You can trash talk the other team. That kind of thing.
I’ll lean towards historical accuracy heavily in this game, but not to the detriment of the game’s fun and feel. Every weapon will be based on a real one (with legally distinct names), and I want balance to be intuitive to those who know how the weapons work in real life. I want Wikipedia to be a legit resource on weapon balance.
Still very early. Criticism and feedback wanted. If you’re interested in working on this in the future, feel free to let me know. I know though that since this is still in concept phase that people might not want to hop on board yet, and that’s fine. I’m broke asf though so it’d have to be revshare ![]()
