Hey all. I am finding myself very perplexed by such a simple issue. I want to choose the most “optimal” yet simple way of having a 2D top down game like Stardew Valley or Coromon etc etc, where you have the ability to maximize to any screen size. I’m honestly confused how to do this even after reading up on it, as there are numerous variables… Stretch mode, Stretch Aspect, viewport width/height.
I set mine to 1920x1080 viewport height, and mode to Canvas items with stretch mode aspect. Doesn’t seem to be working however, as the game is a small area in a big black box around it.
Here’s my current viewport when playing in editor. Canvas items, expand.
canvas items will add black borders, if you don’t want black borders then your best option will be to disable stretching or use aspect “expand”. If your scale mode is “integer” then black bars may be added around the entire screen to conform to pixel-perfect scaling.
I don’t mind the black borders tbh. My screen has a very weird size, 2560x1600. I was hoping there’s a way to simply stretch the game though, to fill my whole screen. Like when I launch Stardew, it just fills my whole screen, on any device. That’s what I’m hoping for… but no matter what I do or change… it stays the same size
So this is A bit of a weird question but what’s a good bass resolution to set my game two if I plan on having a bunch of resolution settings in the future or is that like irrelevant to try and think of right now? And just worry about that later on? I had it set to 1920x1080 bc I figured, lots of people use that
Depends on what quality you are targeting in a 2D game; 3D doesn’t matter.
Pixel art games can benefit from a very small window size and “viewport” scaling. Other 2D games would benefit from targeting a standard resolution like 1080p or less if you want the game to be smaller, not HD.
