Hello, I would like to share a proof of concept I made. Before that, I want to mention that my written English is not the best, so I am using artificial intelligence to help translate this and make sure my message is clear.
I was not sure whether a game like this could really work, so I made this demo, and I am happy with the result. Before continuing, I also want to mention that I am currently looking for a team, and if anyone is interested in taking part, they can go to this post.
The game I am planning is called Youns, and it is inspired by the legendary Digimon World 1. I really loved that game back in the day, and I have not found many games in the genre that truly satisfy me. I know that for many people it may look like a kind of Pokémon, but the difference is that here we only have one Youn, and we are meant to build a relationship with it. When it comes to “evolution,” these creatures evolve based on different rules, where the way they are raised matters a lot. Because of that, the same Youn can evolve into different forms. After its lifespan ends, that Youn dies, is reborn, and the cycle repeats indefinitely.
The battle system is not the same as in DW1. In fact, this system is the main reason why I was not sure whether the idea could work, and why I decided to make this proof of concept in the first place. Battles take place in a tactical system, but with cards. A tactical deckbuilder. At the moment, the proof of concept includes blocking cards, ranged attack cards, melee attack cards, traps, grenades, and movement cards. You can see how it works more clearly in the demo, which I will share at the end.
The plot of the game is also heavily inspired by DW1. The Youns are based on mythological characters, legends, myths, and folklore from Latin America. Because of that, the story revolves around the idea that our roots and relationships are being lost because of technology. We appear in this world of Youns and are assigned our partner, but only a few Youns remain that have not been corrupted by technology. As a result, the design of these characters is based around that technological corruption. Our goal is to find the Youns that are not completely corrupted, invite them to the city, and hope that those bonds of friendship and coexistence can help solve the problem caused by technology.
In addition to the raising systems, the player also has to manage how the city grows and how resources are used. For that reason, I also implemented an incremental system. This incremental system allows us to gradually improve the overall experience, develop the city, obtain items, and train our Youn. Stats have a direct impact on gameplay, since the cards work with stat multipliers.
I hope this proposal interests you. I am sharing the proof of concept as a download. There are a couple of battles in the forest, and inside the building you can see the incremental system. The demo does not have a very clear structure yet. It has a kind of ending, but nothing too important. I would be very happy to receive feedback. Any questions or comments are more than welcome. Thank you very much.
