LOL, when it first came out I thought it was just a very LONG if-else statement python script that contains millions of lines of code…(I was pretty dumb at that time) I even made one in python that can say many things and if something is not in the statement it will find it on wiki and if still nothing matches, it would just say “Sorry my guy,I dunno what u talking about”

Cory Doctorow posted a really good take on LLMs and generative machine learning, and their effects on society. His gist is that there are things they are useful for, most of which we haven’t correctly discovered yet, but also there is indisputably a bubble, investment in which is being driven by the sales pitch to owners that they will be able to reduce costs by eliminating labor (you and me). And when the bubble pops that will be a huge impact on the economy and many other people will then also lose their jobs. So what should we be doing about all that?

Technically Undertale’s dialogue system code-wise is a long if-else statement script, so if we say that AI is a long if-else statement script, are we saying that Undertale is AI or are we saying that AI is Undertale?

NO. Just a profound disgust with yet another greedy techbro adventure at the expense of the rest of us, whatever the perceived qualities of so called AI.
The exploitation of developing economies with data tagging work of the most enshittified kind, the waste of electricity, the cascading effects on consumer GPUs, even though they are not the ones nVidia and co. makes the gazillions with, the price of RAM.
That’s my problem with “AI". Plus that, as a strictly marketing move, it’s called AI.

AI itself is amazing. Yesterday I had a fascinating conversation with one and it really felt like it understood everything I was asking. It was, quite honestly, incredible!
PS Today it was advising I do something really stupid with gdscript and a collision polygon. When I pointed it out, it said “Yes, you are quite right, that will not work.” I didn’t bother asking “why did you just tell me that then”, stupid AI! It is still amazing though. And all our lives we are used to computers being accurate, exact, or otherwise it is a bug to be fixed. And now my computer might be lying to me, what a time to be alive!
PPS Wait until file explorer starts making shit up!
