A Godot OS (Linux backend & Godot frontend)

Hello,

I’ve been thinking… What if we had a Godot Operating System?

Godot has everything you’d want in a powerful yet accessible app development tool: robust GUI, solid performance, and a top-notch editor.

Now take Valve, for example—their Steam Deck OS works seamlessly for what it was designed to do. Meanwhile, Microsoft Windows holds a near-monopoly, which is becoming more of a concern these days.

Here’s my question: _ Has anyone ever considered building a full-fledged operating system that’s as easy to use as Windows, but built on lightweight, headless, battle-tested Linux components? On top of that, Godot would serve as a powerful, user/dev-friendly window and GUI manager.

The Godot editor would be natively integrated, allowing users to start creating applications right away.

The built-in Asset Market could let users share their apps, or scenes, with potential monetization options.

And finally, affordable & eco-friendly computers could come pre-installed with this OS, ready to go from day one.

Godot is not a window manager, it only interfaces with X11/Wayland, it does not implement managing either. SteamOS installs KDE which implements both X11 and Wayland window management and is easy to use. Most distros allow one to install KDE, so any linux flavor can achieve that SteamOS look and feel.

There is a for fun GodotOS project that is very cute

Oh that’s such a nice project!
Thanks for sharing
