About when until 4.4.stable?

When do you guys estimate 4.4.stable will release? Will we be getting it by the end of the year or not. Really can’t wait to try out the new features

The current stage is Godot 4.4 dev 4, so there is 95% chance that Godot 4.4 will release by this year.

The new features of Godot 4.4 is really great and useful, like in-game editor, move objects by snapping on ground, etc. They are the main features of it.

Sorry, but I highly doubt it will release by the end of the year. The Godot Foundation announced after the release of 4.0 that they would try to make a new release about every 4 months. Three months for developing and merging in new features and then one month of beta testing to remove bugs and add polish.

Here’s the blog post announcing those plans:

And they did a fairly good job of sticking to that schedule for two releases (4.1 and 4.2). But Godot 4.2 released basically a year ago, on the last day of November. The first dev build of 4.3 was announced 3 weeks later and then it was about six months later when 4.3 entered beta and then three more months before the full/stable release. All in all it took about 9 months from the release of 4.2 until 4.3.

4.4 is still in “dev” (alpha) release and hasn’t had a beta release yet.

If development of 4.4 is on schedule, that would mean it should be entering beta any day now. But even then I expect the fact that there are major holidays coming up will mean things will slow down and see some delays.

In short, once it gets to a beta state it should be in beta for at least a month, and possibly many months if it follows a similar velocity as 4.3 did.
