I feel there are a lot of game design questions and no where to ask them
YES. I agree the forum should add this, as Iām a game designer myself.
HOWEVER, game design as a craft is insanely abstract. Relying on feel and feedback, rather than the practical binary of āDoes it work?ā in programming.
So, it would be more suited to add a playtest category so people can try out a developerās game design in action. Because thatās the only way to get a real assessment of a game, as everything beforehand is just theory.
I donāt mind theoretical game design discussion, but it does grow stale after a while. I much prefer being in the thick of it (Like I currently am with Monkanicsā gunplay netcode which, BTW, is HARD AS HECK TO IMPLEMENT).
what about asking a tip for game design
That falls under theory.
Tips are theory. Feedback is practice.
Asking for ātipsā is a bad way to learn anything about anything. You very much get what the person answering is willing to share, and this person does not know anything about you or your project. All nuance is lost, and at best you can expect a vague answer or an answer that does not apply to you or your project. The worst outcome is an answer that, when implemented, is actively destructive.
Asking for tips is like having an egg allergy and ordering the blue plate special at a restaurant without first inquiring as to what the special is.
