I’m personally interested almost exclusively in open-source games and would like to be able to filter showcases with an “open-source” tag or some equivalent. I imagine I’m not the only one. This would also make titles for sharing open-source games cleaner, since you wouldn’t have to say it in the title.
Hi,
I have no problem with looking at the code from advertised open source projects, but actively promoting ripping off someone’s non open source code is not a nice thing.
I really hope you’re kidding here, but such an act of taking someone else’s intellectual property is considered stealing in most jurisdictions I’m aware of.
Kindly
Ryn
I’ve only ever used GDRE tools for the purposes of modding the itch.io release of your only move is hustle.
What someone else does with the tools available to them is up to them.
There might have been a misunderstanding here. “Ripping” in the sense of decompiling and “ripping off” in the sense of passing off someone else’s work as your own are not the same thing. There’s plenty of ethical use-cases for “ripping”, though anti-circumvention laws against them exist. There are even some exemptions so it’s not always illegal.
But if you want to continue this discussion then you can link a new topic for it. Though it was probably a joke, the fact that the post got deleted proves that ripping isn’t a substitute for open-sourcing.
