Advice on my Dev priorities for game

Hey ya’all making a little rpg style game, and have a dev progression list. Just looking for feedback on if there are any aspects or features that I am overlooking for a small rpg demo/tutorial.

Hope you all are doing well, and that this list makes sense!

I do want to add crafting forsure, but that is a bit down the line. Trying to get the more foundational stuff developed before adding crafting or other more indepth stuff.

It’s easy to get caught up with all the amazing ideas for your game, but it is important to start small.

Think about your player’s “tutorial”

What do they need to learn first? Movement, using the camera, picking up items/inventory, iteracting with NPCs/dialog, combat, etc.

Start there, build out the main player mechanics and functionality FIRST.

Then once these are nailed down, then the art and terrain will be important

Depending on your skills and available time, I’d cut that list down a lot. You mentioned it’s for a small demo/tutorial, I am assuming that’s to validate the idea? Check if it’s enjoyable, if it’s fun to play?

If not, this comment can possibly be ignored, but if it is, I’d focus on core gameplay. The game loop, basic controls, etc.

I’d scrap the ‘extra’ stuff like day/night, enemy corpses, unique models, main menu, etc. Until you validated the game loop and then add the details.

Hey, thanks for suggestions. I have reorganized to have those core aspects first on my list.

Hey, thanks for the response. So, yeah as far as making any fleshed out projects this is the first I’m trying to make into a playable tutorial

I have reaaranged my list some, to have the core features first on the list. The others I left but moved down since they were more fluffy then core. So, I will have a core tutorial before finishing my list.
