I was building a game where you are the sole survivor of a military operation to recover a military base which was invaded by aliens. I completed the ‘alpha’ version of the game and I would love to hear your opinions….I also would appreciate it if you could suggest a different name for the game
I can see you’ve got a good eye for visuals. The lighting and rim lights are very appreciated.
I like the atmosphere and premise of the game. This would go crazy with some dark/moody music to really sell the vibe of your game.
I quite like the name Hold Ten. I think it’s better than Alien Invasion imo.
Few suggestions for you:
The player speed could probably increase a little. It feels a little sluggish as of now.
Maybe the enemies could also have a wider range of light? Sometimes the lasers would come at me far before I could see the enemy on screen. Or maybe a small indicator?
The green orbs could possibly pulse to show they’re something you can interact with.
The issue with not posting any screenshots is that your post currently looks like this in my mind:
Hey! Here’s an *.exe file, please download and run it, I promise it’s harmless!
Screenshots and videos, while not preventing any maliciousness, give you at least some credibility.
Ideally, you should also embed a web version to your itch, so that no executable files are required, if that’s feasible in your project.
I don’t mean to say all that in a harmful way, just a heads-up why people (myself included) might be hesitant towards trying out your project if you don’t change an approach and make them feel safe.
Good luck nonetheless!
But if i created a wider range of light for enemies such that the player would know that there is an enemy coming, once the arena is full of enemies, it would get lit up too much and it would become difficult to know from which direction the shooting alien is coming. What about reducing the arena size?
Pause menu is always good to have and fairly easy to implement.
But I think you mean a save system, so that the player can save the game, close it, later open it back up, load the previous save state and continue where they left off. Then it depends on how long a typical gameplay is.
If it’s just a couple minutes - not worth it.
If it’s longer than that - it might be frustrating for the player to not be able to close the game without losing all the progress, so it becomes a necessity to implement a save system.
I gave the game a spin, gets very hard very quick
Mainly, it would be nice with a more zoomed-out view, so the player can aim further and see what’s coming.
In terms of feel, the player’s shoot sound effect is pretty weedy… that would be a good thing to replace.
Other than that, there are plenty of features to work on, like some way to regain health.
Somebody had earlier said that the laser from the shooting enemies are attacking the player before even the player can see the enemy. I think your suggestion about decreasing the zoom effect might be the key!
And yes I should improve the shoot sound effect.
And actually there IS a way to regain health. If u go touch the green twinkling orb, u can regain ur health
Once the overview is better, the game will probably be easier, which I think it really needs. Have you lasted for 10 minutes in it?
I imagine you’ll want to implement things like weapon upgrades, more health drops etc… you’ll want the game to evolve a bit in those 10 minutes, and as it is, the difficulty can’t reasonably go any higher.
I never laster 10 mins. Maybe cause i haven’t played it much after it is done. Weapon upgrades is a good feature. Im happy that the increasing difficulty feature has worked well
