Artivact XR - an open-source, virtual museum

,

Hi everyone,

Thanks to the support of the community, I finally managed to release a version of my Godot VR/XR application: “Artivact XR”.

It is a companion app to my other project, “Artivact”, an application for collection management and digitization. I was looking for a way to present virtual exhibits (created with photogrammetry) in VR/XR, and Godot turned out to work great for this purpose.

Currently, there is only one exhibition, focusing on fossils that can be found in the region where I live. I hope to add more exhibitions in the near future.

I know “scanned fossils in VR/XR” is a niche within a niche, but maybe someone else likes virtual fossils as much as I do.

It looks cool! Very detailed fossil models, they really invite you to study them closely.

You say that like it’s a bad thing… I think the world has enough VR zombie shooters and rhythm games for now

I’ll see if I can get it running on my Quest 1, though the Meta takeover really debilitated the device.

Being a virtual fossil to some if not of most of you cyberyounglings, I approve this mess…erh, Virtual Reality exposition !

Signed, your Sol III Local code primate fossil

It doesn’t even show up on Quest 1, so no VR. Did the Windows version instead

I had a hang on peripherals scan:

Is there an exhibition in the desktop version as well? I didn’t find any items etc packed with it.

Thanks for the kind words!

The desktop variant of the app is only for collection management and to aid in 3D scanning. So there is no collection bundled with it. But since the server variant is intended for presentation, you can see the scanned fossils here: https://arassec.com/#/page/cretaceous-fossils

This page is exported for the Godot XR app, which is really the better experience.

Sadly, Meta prohibits selecting Quest 1 as valid installation target. :frowning:

Although the models would have been too detailed for Quest 1 anyway, i guess. Quest 3 works well, Quest 2 (which i excluded for this reason) and Pico 4 are already struggling.
