Bosa Demo and Devlog

Hey I made this game(demo) which is a mashup of my favorite parkour game and osu (a rhythm game) and made a pretty solid level editor for it too (atleast solid for a first time), also the game was quite difficult for playtesters (possibly because of outdated tutorial) so yeah the target audience are sweaty nerds like myself
Anyway you can try it here: bosa by peppo
Also it’s opensource here: GitHub - peippoe/bosa (horrible code tho lol)

But the main reason I made this post is to showcase the devlog I made for it, it’s very much inspired by dani, and it may be a bit too fast at times whoops, but it’s my best work so far, hope u like it :D

(also feedback would be appreciated thanks)

As your friend mentioned, this is a tough combination of genres to pull off. Parkour and rhythm don’t feel like a good combo, maybe cutting back on rhythm could help. Also, MY GOD those colors are saturated. Color theory can help you. Right now you’re doing the equivalent of BOLDING EVERY WORD WITH CAPS LOCK, and it’s painful on the eyes.

Thanks for the feedback

Honestly i think it can work but only if the player knows the mechanics really well and if the map is right, which mine weren’t lol (and it’s hard to make them longer because speed of movement is very variable)

Also sorry for your eyes, I think it’s because i have nightlight on so the colors get flattened by orange

Well it was worth a shot, but prob gonna drop this project as it’s too niche and bad

If you’ve spent 5 months on it, maybe don’t drop it without a second thought, but sometimes that’s what you have to do on a project.

Also, I suggest making your videos not so… Dani-like. Pulling off that style is tough, and it’s even harder to attract an audience. From watching your video, it felt like the game was a silly side project, not that you spent 5 months on it.

Well it was a kind of experiment on my own free time, I didn’t really think it could be big I just wanted to see if I could do it, and I’m gonna be able to reuse the code and experience in the future, so it’s not all bad. It did take 5 months but I didn’t work on it all the time, I did take a break or 2 and I have school so ye.

Also Dani’s videos may be hard to pull off, but I’m just using them as inspiration to develop my own style, the game feels like a side project because it kinda was and it’s funny ig lol
And idk what you mean by “hard to attract an audience” since it was popular and i’d watch it if anyone made those videos, but I can’t really find any.

I appreciate your thoughts/concern and ye I plan on making smaller projects, especially on yt

Looks awesome, it’s hard to say without playing it but I kinda feel like the controls/input might be missing indicators on if your able to climb or something. That vr game had hands that telegraphed that so maybe yours could too?

Looks cool though, I think you’ve found a really interesting hybrid of genres to mash together so I hope to see you pursue it! Is the rhythm game aspect part of the mechanics or does it score you extra points? Getting a movement speed boost or jump height boost on beat might make sense.

That weird CS game where people slide on walls and ramps might be worth playing for some inspo/research too.(Isn’t it great to have an excuse to play games :stuck_out_tongue: )
