Is there a way to copy nodes and childs of a scene onto another?

Right click on a node to which you want to add node from other scene → Merge from Scene
or alternatively:
add external scene to the current one, right click on it → Discard Instancing
and move nodes which are interesting for you and delete the rest.

In Godot 3.1 it’s right click → “Make Local” instead of “Discard Instancing”
