Down Is Forever: I finally built and shipped my first mobile game with Godot

Title

I’ve wanted to build and release a mobile game for years.

I started programming a long time ago and experimented with game development several times, but I could never quite get from an idea to a complete game that I was happy enough to ship.

Then I found Godot.

The idea eventually became Down Is Forever, a one-touch endless faller that takes the endless-runner concept vertically downward.

You play Dr. Anya Rao of the Deepwell Institute, descending through a shifting mindscape in search of a root memory buried somewhere below.

One of the hardest parts was getting the sensation of falling through an effectively endless 3D shaft to feel right. Once I got that working in Godot, the game started taking shape around it.

I built the whole game solo and have now shipped it on both Android and iOS.

I’d love to hear what other Godot developers think, particularly about the gameplay and the sense of depth and falling.

I’m also preparing to launch the game on Product Hunt. I’ve been trying to figure out how best to present an indie game there, so I’d appreciate any feedback on the launch page from fellow Godot developers:

And a big thank you to everyone who has built and contributed to Godot. Being able to take an idea like this all the way to a shipped iOS and Android game as a solo developer has been quite an experience.
