As a result of a recent discussion in the help section, I made this simple but useful plugin. It lets you focus the editor camera to a clicked point on a mesh or on the ground. The point becomes a new orbiting pivot for the camera. It’s analogous to similar functionality available in Blender or Unity.
I made a preliminary native version of this. Works much better that way. It’s also simpler to implement. There’s a proposal at https://github.com/godotengine/godot-proposals/issues/14116. Feel free to comment and upvote.
Nice job. I think I upvoted it?
I think you did
Thank you!
Imo, a thing like this is long overdue in Godot. The officials declared that 4.6 and the next few versions will be all about qol and this feature is pure qol.
Yeah. I’ve not used it in Blender, but I can see how it would be useful. I use F for focus all the time. Being able to target models specifically seems very nice.
Have you uploaded this plugin to the Godot Asset Store?
(The asset library and store are 2 different things)
Nope. Who’s in charge of the asset store?
The Godot Foundation. Just like the asset library.
The asset store is in development to eventually replace the asset library I believe.
Yeah I haven’t used it much myself up until now. I think it’s relatively new in Blender too. It’s easy to get hooked though once you start using it.
I’ll see to it.
