I’ve found their art worth it. I found them through gamedev.tv because some of the Godot tutorials use their assets. What I like is that it lets me focus on building games and learning the tools. Yes, sometimes I feel limited when it comes to things like wanting new animations, but overall I can generally find something that works. Though for the most part I’ve only been doing game jams.
It’s really nice to hear that our assets helped you in making your games!
This is actually a great example of when a developer stays focused on the game itself and uses the available resources to bring it together.
Very often developers lose focus and end up spending too much time on secondary details. As a result, the whole project turns into polishing small things instead of creating something real and playable.
That’s definitely a trap I’ve fallen into a number of times. Including both of those games, where I planned to have more content, but ran out of time. One of the problems I’ve been trying to solve is with Eternal Echoes, when I used all the background art I ended up layering a lot of files to create the houses. This caused a loading problem for one player. Now I know I could construct them in Gimp or Krita and then export a single image to use, but I wanted to figure out how to take layers and collapse them into a single picture inside Godot. I was able to get all the images into a single image, but I had a lot of trouble keeping their relative positions. After a week on it I ended up giving up on the project for a time, but I think it could be really useful as a tool.
