FYI: Built-in Discourse Tutorials

I didn’t see this mentioned in the Welcome message, but there’s a built-in bot that will run a couple of tutorials to get you familiar with Discourse.

To use it:

  • go to your inbox (bottom-left under Messages)
  • create a new message
  • send it to discobot
  • add a title (doesn’t matter what - it is ignored)
  • in the body write @discobot display help

There are two tutorials there to step you through how to use Discourse effectively.

When you’ve completed the basic tutorial you’ll receive the Certified badge.

When you’ve completed the advanced tutorial you’ll receive the Licensed badge.

I did that and all it does is respond with " Hi! To find out what I can do, say @discobot display help .". I do that and get the same response.

The text of the message needs to be @discobot display help (including the @discobot). It should reply with:

I currently know how to do the following things:

Then you can respond with the next thing you want to do.

 I didn’t find the message, all the discource forums have different UIs so it’s kind of hard to navigate.
