Game jam team finder app?

While trying to find partners for a game jam I noticed how messy the process was. Everyone presented themselves but I didn’t see much people get a match and find collaborators.

I thought of making a little app to ease this process, where people can connect and see their areas of expertise in a clearer way, but I don’t know if something like that exists or if my experience was not what usually happens, so I was curious to hear how you guys find partners for game jams and also if you would be interested in using a tool such as this

I hope that was a joke.

@Demetrius_Dixon has been fantastic on these forums, and I am always delighted to read his comments. Everything he said about GameJams is true enough and is why I have never done one either. And he was completely honest in those comments too.

I quit the jam. It’s just not for me.

As for the app to find team members, I had an idea for it. Having an easy embed option would definitely make this app more attractive to game jam organizers. If they can quickly add the team-finding tool to their existing event page with minimal technical effort, it’ll increase adoption. Something like a simple JavaScript snippet or iframe that matches the event’s look and feel or is neutral enough to fit on any page would be ideal. Then you can piggy back on the game jams marketing as well as helping to fulfil the purpose of the app.

PS I had another idea too. What if participants could specify their exact time commitment for a specific game jam? For example, someone could say, ‘I can contribute 4 hours to art touch-ups’ or ‘I have 2 hours available for sound design’. This approach removes the intimidating expectation of full-time participation and allows more flexible, targeted contributions. It helps teams find precise skills they need without pressuring volunteers to dedicate their entire jam period.

@da_flarf Sorry to hear that. I can imagine that could cause frustration.

Yeah, the idea i had in mind was to be able to clearly specify and see other peoples dispositions, tech stack / areas of expertise and even interests, then be able to filter all of this so that if I’m searching for a team and I’m only interested in making games with godot, I dont have to scroll endlessly until I find a team that asks for a godot dev.
I also wanted for already formed teams to post announcements with the roles they are searching for.

However someone mentioned develteam as an existing solution, so all of this is probably pointless.

Anyway, aside from the idea I’m interested in wether you have had trouble finding teams in the past or if it is just me.
